Information systems · Software · Product management

For over 27 years I have been hands-on with information systems.

From database-driven business applications to modern enterprise architectures that come together on a single platform. Today I lead the software unit at the Information Technology Directorate of Yeditepe University.

Journey

From Oracle Forms to microservices: twenty-seven years, and a lesson from every era.

  1. 1999

    Ankara University, Rectorate IT Center

As an analyst programmer I built the central student tracking system and a research project tracking application with Oracle Forms and Reports, and migrated legacy DB2 and dBase data to Oracle.

  2. 2005

    Yeditepe University, software team

Development and maintenance of the student information system written in classic ASP and VBScript. Moved to C# and ASP.NET Web Forms in 2006; built the Human Resources personnel and payroll system.

  3. 2008

    The Java and Oracle era

The student information system was rebuilt with Oracle, Java and Vaadin, and the entire database was migrated from MS SQL to Oracle.

  4. 2014

    Analysis, design and DevOps

Business analysis and project design alongside full stack development. DevOps practices with Gitea and Jenkins; API-based integration designs for external systems such as NVI and YÖKSİS.

  5. 2018

    OİS and the data layer

A full migration project renewing part of the student affairs system; data layer in PL/SQL and T-SQL, financial transactions and integrations.

  6. 2021

    Leadership and a new platform

Software unit manager and product owner. Enterprise platform transformation with React, Node and microservices; team building and hiring.

  7. Today

    AI-assisted development

I actively use AI-assisted tools throughout my development process.

Selected work

Internal institutional systems rather than client projects; all of them live, all long-lived.

Student information system transformation

From classic ASP and VBScript to Oracle, Java and Vaadin, followed by OİS, the full migration project that renewed part of student affairs.

HR personnel and payroll system

Taken live in 2008 because of a legal requirement, matured around 2010-2011, and still in use today. Run end to end from analysis to testing; updated only when legislation demands it.
